Our instruction ranges from hitting, pitching and catching, to functional strength and conditioning. Our coaches have professional experience, are highly skilled and, most importantly, have an insatiable appetite for baseball and softball.
Michael Moras » Owner/Head Instructor
The owner and operator of The Grind Baseball and Softball Training Facility, Michael is well-known in Connecticut as a player, mentor, coach and friend. Selected by the New York Mets in the 20th round of the 2008 amateur draft, he played professional baseball for five seasons. A graduate of the University of New Haven, Michael was the school's four-year starting catcher. A four-time, All-Conference and All-Region player, Michael was named All-American in his junior year. He hit three home runs, including two grand slams, in a single game, to tie a Division II record. Michael also led UNH and the East Coast Conference with 70 RBIs in 46 games, breaking the school's single-season record. Born and raised in Orange, Michael attended Amity Regional High School where he was named an all state player his senior year. He is also a former Orange Little League standout.Michael sets the tone for The Grind with his love for the game and his players, and his individual attention to all The Grind's athletes.
Matt Untiet » Head Instructor
A native of Berlin, Matt is a head instructor/coach for the Grind. Matt specializes in college recruiting and heads the 18U college showcase team. He was most recently the assistant baseball coach at the University of Rhode Island. Prior to joining URI, he spent two seasons at Stetson University, where he worked with outfielders and first basemen, coached first base and assisted with hitting. Working under current URI head coach Raphael Cerrato, Matt was responsible for hitting and infield instruction as well as outfield coaching at the University of New Haven. He also assisted with recruiting, academics and summer camps. Matt has also served as a camp instructor at Vanderbilt University, the University of Connecticut and Boston College. He spent the summer of 2008 as an assistant coach with the Bourne Braves of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League.Before commencing his coaching career, Untiet was a scholar-athlete and four-year member of the baseball team at UConn. A first/third baseman for the Huskies, he ended his collegiate career as UConn's all-time leader in putouts, with 1,250.
Connor David » Head Instructor/Strength Coordinator
A Cheshire native, Connor is a head instructor/coach and Strength & Conditioning coordinator for the Grind. Connor has his CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) and FMS (Functional Movement Systems) certifications. He runs both the athlete strength programs (10-18U) as well as the adult fitness programs. He played professionally for the Bridgeport Bluefish and Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League. Connor was a four year letter winner at UConn as well as a member of the 2013 Big East Championship / Blacksburg Regional Team. He was a multi-year Academic All-Conference (Big East / American Conferences). He has played for multiple summer league teams including the Bourne Braves (Cape Cod Baseball League), Mystic Schooners and Danbury Westerners (NECBL). Connor specializes in hitting and catching for the Grind.
Jason Esposito » Instructor
A Bethany native and current Cleveland Indians Hitting Coach, Jason spends his off season back at the Grind helping to coach our athletes. Jason was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2nd round of the 2012 amateur draft. A graduate of Vanderbilt University, he set numerous school records and led the team to the College World Series. Overall he led the SEC in doubles and ranks 3rd in Vanderbilt's history. He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 7th round of the 2008 MLB June Amateur Draft from Amity Regional High School. While at Amity, Jason was named the 2008 All-State MVP, All-Area MVP, New Haven Register MVP, Connecticut Post MVP, Hartford Courant MVP, Gatorade Player of the Year, Connecticut Coca-Cola Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, 2007 Gold Glove and Louisville Slugger All-American. Jason specializes in hitting and fielding for the Grind.
Vinny Siena » Instructor
A Woodbridge native and current infielder for the New York Mets, Vinny calls the Grind his home in the offseason. Vin played this past year in both Columbia (Low A) and Port St. Lucie (High A) in the Mets organization. Vinny was 12th round draft pick in 2015 from UCONN after an outstanding junior season. He was a four year letter winner at Amity High School. Vinny and Jason Esposito are the only two Amity shortstops to start as freshman for Sal Coppola. Vinny specializes in infield and hitting for the Grind.
Jason Wilkerson » Instructor/Facility Coordinator
A West Haven native, Jason is a Grind Baseball alumni as well as one the instructors/coaches for the Grind. Jason played baseball at West Haven High School. In 2015, Jason was an All-SCC outfielder for West Haven. He is an assistant coach for the 10-13U Grind teams. Jason also helps to run the clinics offered at the Grind.
Garrett Walker » Instructor
A Milford native, Garrett is a baseball/softball instructor as well as the Foran High School head coach. Garrett played college baseball for CCSU before following in his passion to coach high school baseball. He works with top college and high school softball players as well as numerous high level baseball prospects. Garrett specializes in hitting for the Grind.
